Short answer

Can I get high cholesterol care online in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Statin refills, lipid panels, and a heart-risk check that weighs your family history and South Asian ancestry. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $89, or use insurance. If labs are needed, your clinician usually orders the Essential Blood Work (Blood count, metabolic panel, cholesterol and A1c), $59, through Passion Health Blood Work, drawn at a Passion Health clinic or any CPL patient service center in Texas; with insurance, the lab bills your plan directly. Medicines a clinician may consider include atorvastatin, rosuvastatin and ezetimibe — never controlled medicines, and a prescription is never guaranteed. If you have liver disease, such as cirrhosis or active hepatitis, you need an in-person visit within a few days instead, and you don't pay the online fee. Already a Passion Health patient with insurance? We book you with your own clinician instead.

About the condition

What to know about high cholesterol

High cholesterol means you have too much LDL (bad) cholesterol or other fats in your blood. Over time they can build up in your arteries and raise your risk of heart attack and stroke. It usually causes no symptoms, so a blood test is the only way to know. Diet, weight, genes, diabetes and some medicines all play a part.

What is a heart-risk check, and why does ancestry matter?

Your clinician can estimate your 10-year chance of a heart attack or stroke from your age, cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes and smoking. US heart guidelines also count risk-enhancing factors, including South Asian ancestry, a family history of early heart disease and chronic kidney disease. Together these help decide whether a cholesterol medicine makes sense for you.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • You take a statin or another cholesterol medicine and need a refill or follow-up lipid panel
  • A recent lipid panel came back high and you want it explained alongside your overall heart risk
  • Heart disease runs in your family, or your family background is South Asian, and you want a heart-risk check
  • You've had mild side effects on a statin and want to talk through options

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • You have liver disease, such as cirrhosis or active hepatitis Within days
  • You're pregnant or trying to get pregnant and take a cholesterol medicine Within days
  • You take a statin and have severe muscle pain or weakness, without dark urine Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • New or worsening shortness of breath, or chest tightness, when you walk or climb stairs
  • Racing or pounding heartbeat with fainting, chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Leg swelling with shortness of breath
  • An arm or leg that is suddenly cold, pale and painful
  • Blood pressure 180/120 or higher with headache, chest pain, vision change or confusion

Emergency room now

  • You take a statin and have muscle pain or weakness with dark, tea-colored urine (stop the statin)
  • Resting heart rate over 120, or under 45 with dizziness
  • One leg suddenly swollen, red, warm or painful

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

Already a Passion Health patient?

If Passion Health is your primary care practice and you have insurance, book this with your own clinician — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan, not just this one problem. Online high cholesterol care is for new patients, uninsured patients and patients outside Dallas–Fort Worth; established patients without insurance pay the $39 renewal rate.

How it works

How your high cholesterol visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the high cholesterol intake

Upload prior results or home readings if you have them.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

If labs would help, the order goes to a Passion Health clinic, or to any CPL patient service center in Texas.

  3. 3
    Results go to your clinician

Your clinician reviews them and contacts you with your plan.

  4. 4
    Follow-up on a schedule

Check-ins and repeat labs timed to your condition; 30 days of messaging.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • Reviewing your latest lipid panel, blood pressure, diabetes and smoking status to estimate your 10-year heart risk
  • A lipid panel and A1c, if you don't have recent results
  • Continuing or adjusting a statin or another cholesterol medicine, if appropriate, with a repeat lipid panel 6–12 weeks after any change
  • If you've never taken a cholesterol medicine: a recent lipid panel and a video conversation about benefits and side effects before any start
  • A coronary calcium scan referral when your risk is borderline and the result would change the plan

Medicines a clinician may consider

AtorvastatinRosuvastatinEzetimibe

What these medicines may cost without insurance

Example cash prices for the medicines listed above
Atorvastatin tablets30 tablets$10.50–$11.45
Rosuvastatin tablets30 tablets$10.70–$12.07
Ezetimibe 10 mg tablets30 tablets$11.63

Generic prices are mail-order cash prices listed by Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company on October 15, 2026, including its $5.00 pharmacy fee and $5.25 standard shipping. A shorter course costs less.

Shown so you can plan, not to point you to a pharmacy. Any Texas pharmacy can fill your prescription, and its cash price may be higher or lower. With insurance, your plan sets your cost, and a cash purchase usually doesn't count toward your deductible. If you have Medicare or Medicaid, ask the pharmacy to use your coverage first. Prices change. Passion Health doesn't sell medicine and receives nothing from any pharmacy or drugmaker. A prescription is never guaranteed.

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your clinician recommends a lipid panel or A1c, you can have it drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.
  • If your clinician recommends chronic care management and you have Medicare and qualify, you can enroll in Passion Health's program.
  • If your clinician recommends a coronary calcium scan, they can refer you to an imaging center for it.

How much does an online high cholesterol visit cost?

  • 30 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs your clinician orders are priced through Passion Health Blood Work if you self-pay, or billed to your plan directly by the lab (CPL) if you use insurance; imaging is billed by the imaging center and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in, 30 days of secure messaging, and lab follow-up when labs were ordered.

A lipid panel 6–12 weeks after any medicine change, then about once a year. Once you're stable, refills may cover up to 12 months.

Labs your clinician may order

Priced through Passion Health Blood Work

A lipid panel with A1c, liver and kidney checks before starting or adjusting a statin; the Full panel adds ApoB and Lp(a) when your clinician wants a finer risk picture. Ordered only if your clinician decides it's needed — the visit price never includes a test you don't need.

All Blood Work tests
Essential Blood WorkBlood count, metabolic panel, cholesterol and A1c (33 results)$59

Typical self-pay total: $89 visit + $59 labs = $148

Your clinician may prefer Full Blood Work ($99: essential plus apob, hs-crp and a one-time lp(a) (36 results)).

Self-pay prices are billed by Passion Health. If you use insurance — including Medicare and Medicaid — the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly for the tests under your plan's lab benefits, and the prices above don't apply. Blood is drawn at a Passion Health clinic in North Texas or at any CPL patient service center in Texas; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Questions

Questions about high cholesterol care

How much does an online high cholesterol visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $89 for a standard evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Labs and imaging are billed separately. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For high cholesterol, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

I'm already a Passion Health patient. Can I use this?

If you have insurance, we'll book you with your own Passion Health clinician instead — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan. If you're an established patient without insurance, continuing a treatment we already prescribed uses the $39 follow-up rate; a new problem uses this page's price.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, they're priced through Passion Health Blood Work: for high cholesterol that's usually the Essential Blood Work (Blood count, metabolic panel, cholesterol and A1c), $59, through Passion Health Blood Work (self-pay prices, billed by Passion Health). If you use insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly and those prices don't apply. You can have blood drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth or walk into any CPL patient service center in Texas with a photo ID; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Do I need to fast before a cholesterol test?

Usually not. For most people a non-fasting lipid panel is accurate enough to check cholesterol and estimate heart risk. Your clinician may ask you to fast for 9 to 12 hours if your triglycerides were high before, or if a fasting glucose is being drawn at the same time. Water and your usual medicines are fine unless you're told otherwise.

Why does South Asian ancestry matter for cholesterol?

People with South Asian roots, including Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and Nepali families, tend to develop heart disease earlier and at lower body weights. US heart guidelines list South Asian ancestry as a risk-enhancing factor, which can tip the balance toward starting a cholesterol medicine sooner. Your clinician weighs it along with your numbers and family history.

What if a statin gives me muscle aches?

Mild aches are common, and studies show many of them aren't caused by the statin itself. Your clinician may check a blood test, pause the medicine briefly, lower the dose, or try a different statin or a non-statin option. Please don't stop on your own without talking to your clinician. If you have muscle pain or weakness with dark, tea-colored urine, stop your statin and go to an emergency room now. Severe muscle pain or weakness without dark urine should be seen today.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
