Short answer

Can I get help to quit smoking online in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Ready to quit, or thinking about it? A clinician builds a plan with you, including counseling and medicine options if appropriate. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $59, or use insurance. A prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose only if it's appropriate; controlled medicines are never prescribed online. If you have a cough lasting more than 3 weeks, a hoarse voice, or weight loss you can't explain, you need an in-person visit within a few days instead, and you don't pay the online fee. Already a Passion Health patient with insurance? We book you with your own clinician instead.

About the condition

What to know about quit smoking

Choosing to quit smoking is one of the most important things you can do for your health, at any age. Nicotine is addictive, so most people need several tries, and using counseling and medicine together can more than double your chance of success. Within one to two years of quitting, your risk of a heart attack drops sharply.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • You smoke cigarettes or use other tobacco and want to quit, or cut down first
  • You've tried before and want a different plan
  • You'd like to talk about medicine options such as nicotine replacement, varenicline or bupropion
  • You want follow-up to help you stay quit

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • A cough lasting more than 3 weeks, a hoarse voice, or weight loss you can't explain Within days
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding Within days
  • You've had a heart attack or stroke in the past 2 weeks Within days
  • Several days of very high energy with little need for sleep Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • Short of breath at rest
  • Too breathless to speak in full sentences
  • Blue or gray lips or fingertips

Call or text 988

  • Right now, thoughts of ending your life or a plan to, or you've hurt yourself on purpose in the past few days

Emergency room now

  • Hearing or seeing things others don't, or feeling others are out to get you
  • Shaking, sweating or confusion after stopping alcohol or drugs
  • You are drunk or high right now
  • Oxygen level below 94% on a home monitor (below 90% if you have COPD)
  • Coughing up more than a teaspoon of blood, or blood with breathlessness or chest pain

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

Already a Passion Health patient?

If Passion Health is your primary care practice and you have insurance, book this with your own clinician — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan, not just this one problem. Online quit smoking care is for new patients, uninsured patients and patients outside Dallas–Fort Worth; established patients without insurance pay the $39 renewal rate.

How it works

How your quit smoking visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the quit smoking intake

About 5 minutes, with photos if they help. Emergency and safety questions come first.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reads everything and calls or videos you if they need more.

  3. 3
    You get a plan

If treatment is appropriate, a prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose.

  4. 4
    Follow-up is built in

A 48-hour check-in and secure messaging. If you need to be seen, a same-day visit at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or clear advice on where to go near you.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • Questions about how much you smoke, how soon after waking, past quit attempts and what led to relapses
  • A quit plan with a quit date, coping strategies and counseling, including connecting you with the Texas quitline through 1-800-QUIT-NOW
  • Nicotine replacement (such as a patch plus gum or lozenges), varenicline or bupropion, if appropriate — after a mood screen and a check of your other health conditions
  • A mood check, because quitting can affect mood and some medicines need extra care if you've had depression
  • A lung cancer screening check if you're 50–80 and have smoked heavily

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If you're 50–80 and have a significant smoking history, your clinician can check whether you're due for lung cancer screening and help you schedule it.

How much does an online quit smoking visit cost?

Quick evaluation
$59
  • A Texas-licensed clinician reviews your intake
  • A care plan, and a prescription if appropriate
  • 48-hour check-in
  • 14 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in message and 14 days of secure messaging. If you're not improving, we book a same-day clinic visit, or, if you're not near one of our clinics, tell you where to be seen near you.

We check in around your quit date — the first few weeks are when most slips happen — and adjust the plan if needed. 14 days of messaging.

Questions

Questions about quit smoking care

How much does an online quit smoking visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $59 for a quick evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For quit smoking, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

I'm already a Passion Health patient. Can I use this?

If you have insurance, we'll book you with your own Passion Health clinician instead — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan. If you're an established patient without insurance, continuing a treatment we already prescribed uses the $39 follow-up rate; a new problem uses this page's price.

How do quit-smoking medicines work?

Nicotine replacement — patches, gum, lozenges and others — eases cravings and withdrawal without the harm of smoke, and using a patch with a faster form often works better than one alone. Varenicline reduces cravings and the pleasure of smoking. Bupropion helps with cravings and can help mood, but it isn't prescribed online if you've had a seizure, an eating disorder, bipolar disorder or a serious head injury, drink heavily or recently stopped alcohol or sedatives, have high blood pressure that isn't under control, or take an MAOI, linezolid or bupropion already. Your clinician will consider your health history and preferences to help you choose.

Can e-cigarettes help me quit?

The evidence is still mixed. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force says there isn't enough evidence to recommend e-cigarettes for quitting, while FDA-approved medicines plus counseling have a strong track record. If you vape now, or want to quit vaping too, tell your clinician — they can help you plan.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
