Short answer

Can I get depression treatment online in Texas?

Yes, by live video, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Feeling down, flat, or hopeless for weeks? A live video visit, validated screening, and a plan that may include medication, counseling, or both. A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician meets you on live video (Passion Health sees every mental-health visit by video), uses validated screening tools and builds a written plan with you. The flat price is $129, or use insurance. Medicines a clinician may consider include sertraline, escitalopram and bupropion — never controlled medicines, and a prescription is never guaranteed. If you've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, you need an in-person visit within a few days instead, and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about depression

Depression is a common, treatable medical condition that causes a low mood or loss of interest in things you used to enjoy, lasting two weeks or more. It can affect sleep, appetite, energy, focus and self-worth. Genes, stress, loss, medical conditions and some medicines can contribute. It affects people of every age and background.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • Low mood, loss of interest, or hopelessness for 2 weeks or more
  • Mild to moderate depression that affects daily life
  • Starting, adjusting, or continuing an antidepressant
  • Help finding counseling
  • You can join a live video visit from a private place in Texas

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • You've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia Within days
  • You want a benzodiazepine (such as alprazolam, lorazepam, or clonazepam) started or refilled Within days
  • You're so depressed you can't eat, drink, or take care of yourself Same day
  • Several days of very high energy with little need for sleep Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call or text 988

  • Hearing or seeing things others don't, or feeling others are out to get you
  • Shaking, sweating or confusion after stopping alcohol or drugs
  • You are drunk or high right now

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

What these medicines may cost without insurance

Example cash prices for the medicines listed above

Escitalopram 5 to 20 mg tablets30 tablets$11.03–$11.57
Bupropion SR or XL tablets30 tablets$11.08–$11.93

Generic prices are mail-order cash prices listed by Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company on October 15, 2026, including its $5.00 pharmacy fee and $5.25 standard shipping. A shorter course costs less.

Shown so you can plan, not to point you to a pharmacy. Any Texas pharmacy can fill your prescription, and its cash price may be higher or lower. With insurance, your plan sets your cost, and a cash purchase usually doesn't count toward your deductible. If you have Medicare or Medicaid, ask the pharmacy to use your coverage first. Prices change. Passion Health doesn't sell medicine and receives nothing from any pharmacy or drugmaker. A prescription is never guaranteed.

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

How much does an online depression visit cost?

Comprehensive evaluation
$129
  • Live video visit
  • Validated screening tools
  • A written care plan
  • 90 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

Check-in 1–2 weeks after any medication start or change, then on a schedule that fits your plan; 90 days of messaging.

Video visit included. Check-in 1–2 weeks after any medication start or change (within about a week if you're 18 to 24), then every 90 days. Counselor referral through Passion Health Mental Health & Wellness.

Questions

Questions about depression care

How much does an online depression visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $129 for a comprehensive evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Why is this a video visit?

Because Passion Health sees every mental-health visit by live video: a live conversation is the safest way to do these visits online, and it lets the clinician use validated screening tools and build the plan with you. That is our policy, not a Texas legal requirement.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

What happens if I tell you I've thought about hurting myself?

We'll help you stay safe. If you tell us you've had these thoughts, your clinician sees your answers before your visit, talks with you about them, and plans with you how to stay safe. If you're thinking about ending your life right now, or have a plan to, the intake stops and points you to immediate help instead of an online visit. If you are in danger right now, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (or chat at 988lifeline.org), or call 911. Telling us helps your clinician understand what you need and plan your care with you.

How long do antidepressants take to work?

Most take 4 to 8 weeks to reach their full effect, though sleep or energy may improve sooner. Side effects are often mild and fade over the first few weeks. Your clinician checks in 1 to 2 weeks after any start or change (within about a week if you're 18 to 24). Don't stop an antidepressant suddenly without talking to your clinician.

Is counseling part of treatment?

It can be. Talk therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy helps many people with depression, alone or together with medicine. Your clinician can refer you to a counselor and will help you choose an approach that fits your symptoms, your schedule and your preferences.

Are there extra cautions for younger adults?

Yes. Antidepressants carry an FDA boxed warning: in people under 25, they can increase suicidal thoughts or behavior, especially in the first weeks or after a dose change. If you're 18 to 24, your clinician checks in within about a week of starting or changing a dose. At any age, tell your clinician right away if you notice new or worse anxiety, agitation, panic, trouble sleeping or mood changes. If you have thoughts of suicide, call or text 988, or call 911 if you're in danger.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship by live video when the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007; 22 TAC §175.2). Seeing every mental-health visit by live video is Passion Health's policy. So is our rule that controlled medicines are never prescribed or renewed through Online Care; if one is ever considered, that decision is made only at an in-person visit with a Passion Health physician.
