Short answer

Can I get chlamydia treatment online in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Tested positive, have symptoms, or a partner told you? A clinician arranges testing and, when appropriate, treatment — pills for chlamydia, or one injection at a short in-person visit for gonorrhea. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $89, or use insurance. Labs, if needed, can be drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas. A prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose only if it's appropriate; controlled medicines are never prescribed online. If you have pain in your lower belly or pelvis, or new pain during sex, with or without fever, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you), and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about chlamydia & gonorrhea

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are common bacterial sexually transmitted infections spread through vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Most people have no symptoms, but they can cause burning, discharge, or pelvic pain. Untreated, they can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. Both are found with a urine or swab test and are treated with antibiotics.

Who should be screened for gonorrhea?

CDC recommends yearly chlamydia and gonorrhea screening for sexually active women under 25, and for older women with a new partner or more than one partner. Men who have sex with men should be screened at least yearly at every site of contact — urine, throat, and rectum. Because gonorrhea has become resistant to many antibiotics, the recommended treatment is an injection, so your clinician will usually arrange a short in-person visit for it — at one of our clinics, or near you if you're outside Dallas–Fort Worth.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • A positive chlamydia test and you want treatment
  • A partner tested positive for chlamydia or gonorrhea
  • Mild burning or discharge and you want testing
  • You need a retest about 3 months after treatment

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • Pain in your lower belly or pelvis, or new pain during sex, with or without fever Same day
  • New joint pain or swelling, or a rash of small spots or pus bumps, after a possible exposure Same day
  • Fever with pain in your side or back Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Emergency room now

  • Possible HIV exposure in the last 72 hours — you may need PEP, which must start fast: go to an emergency room now
  • Pain or swelling in a testicle, especially if it started suddenly
  • You were sexually assaulted. Go to an emergency room for a sexual assault (SANE) exam and medicine to prevent infection; 24/7 support: 800-656-4673
  • You can't urinate at all
  • Pregnant, with pelvic pain or bleeding

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How it works

How your chlamydia & gonorrhea visit works

  1. 1
Answer the chlamydia & gonorrhea intake

Upload prior results or home readings if you have them.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

If labs would help, the order goes to a Passion Health clinic, or to any CPL patient service center in Texas.

  3. 3
    Results go to your clinician

Your clinician reviews them and contacts you with your plan.

  4. 4
    Follow-up on a schedule

Check-ins and repeat labs timed to your condition; 30 days of messaging.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • A urine test and, if appropriate, throat or rectal swabs, plus HIV and syphilis blood tests
  • An oral antibiotic for chlamydia, if appropriate; if you're pregnant, one that's safe in pregnancy (not doxycycline), a test 4 weeks after treatment to confirm it has cleared, and your obstetric clinician kept informed
  • For gonorrhea, the CDC-recommended antibiotic injection at a short in-person visit — at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth or, if you're not near us, at an urgent care, your own clinician or your local health department's STD clinic
  • Advice to avoid sex for 7 days after treatment and until your partners are treated
  • A retest about 3 months after treatment, and a follow-up test to confirm it has cleared in some cases, such as a throat infection or pregnancy

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your clinician recommends a urine, swab, or blood test, you can have it at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.
Price & insurance

How much does an online chlamydia & gonorrhea visit cost?

Standard evaluation
$89
  • Everything in Quick
  • Lab orders when needed (labs billed separately)
  • 30 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in, 30 days of secure messaging, and lab follow-up when labs were ordered.

Your clinician checks in after treatment and reminds you to retest in about 3 months, because repeat infections are common. A follow-up test to confirm the infection has cleared is arranged when guidelines call for it.

Questions

Questions about chlamydia & gonorrhea care

How much does an online chlamydia & gonorrhea visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $89 for a standard evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Labs and imaging are billed separately. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For chlamydia & gonorrhea, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, you can have them drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth, or at any CPL patient service center in Texas. With insurance, the lab bills your plan directly. Self-pay tests that are in the Passion Health Blood Work catalog are billed at Blood Work prices; tests that aren't are billed by the lab (CPL) at its self-pay prices, and we give you an estimate before you go. Your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Can my partner be treated too?

Yes, and it matters. Partners from the last 60 days should be tested and treated so the infection isn't passed back and forth. The best option is their own visit — online with us, at any Passion Health clinic, or with their own clinician. If a partner is unlikely to get care quickly, your clinician may be able to prescribe medicine for them under Texas expedited partner therapy (EPT) rules, with written instructions; they should still get tested. EPT isn't advised for a partner who is pregnant or has belly, pelvic or testicle pain — they need their own visit — and for male partners of men a full test visit is usually recommended instead. Your clinician can help you plan how to tell them.

How long after treatment can I have sex?

Wait 7 days after a single-dose treatment, or until you finish a 7-day course, and until your symptoms are gone. Also wait until your partners have been treated, so the infection isn't passed back to you. Repeat infections are common, which is why a retest about 3 months later is recommended.

Why does gonorrhea need an in-person visit?

Gonorrhea has become resistant to many antibiotics. The treatment CDC recommends is a single antibiotic injection, so your clinician arranges a short in-person visit: at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth or, if you're not near us, at an urgent care, your own clinician or your local health department's STD clinic. With your consent, we send them your result and the recommended treatment. A visit at our clinic is billed like any clinic visit, to your insurance or as a self-pay visit. If an injection truly isn't available to you and the infection isn't in your throat, your clinician may consider an oral alternative that CDC lists for that situation. If you had a throat infection, a repeat test 1 to 2 weeks after treatment checks that it has cleared.

Could someone else on my insurance find out about this visit?

It's possible. If you use insurance, your plan may send a statement to the policyholder — for example a parent or spouse — listing the visit, lab tests or medicine. To keep this off your plan, choose the cash price, pay for lab tests and medicine yourself, and ask the pharmacy not to bill your insurance. You can also ask us not to share care you've paid for in full with your plan, and ask your plan to send its mail to a different address. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE work differently, so ask us before your visit if this matters to you.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
