Can I get herpes treatment online in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Discreet care for genital herpes you've had diagnosed before — treatment for an outbreak, or a daily plan to prevent them. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $59, or use insurance. Medicines a clinician may consider include valacyclovir and acyclovir — never controlled medicines, and a prescription is never guaranteed. If this is your first-ever outbreak, or you have genital sores that have never been diagnosed, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you), and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about genital herpes

Genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by herpes simplex virus type 2, or sometimes type 1. It causes painful blisters or sores in the genital area that heal and can come back. Many people have mild or no symptoms and don't know they carry it. Medicine can shorten outbreaks and lower the chance of spreading it.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • Genital herpes that a clinician has diagnosed before
  • A new outbreak that feels like your usual ones
  • Daily medicine to prevent outbreaks or lower the chance of passing herpes to a partner
  • Discreet care without a waiting room

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • This is your first-ever outbreak, or you have genital sores that have never been diagnosed Same day
  • Fever, severe pain, or trouble passing urine during an outbreak Same day
  • A sore near your eye, or eye pain, redness, or blurry vision Same day
  • You have a weakened immune system, for example from chemotherapy, an organ transplant, or long-term steroid pills Same day
  • Sores spreading over a large area of skin, or mouth or throat sores so painful you can't drink Same day
  • Fever with pain in your side or back Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Emergency room now

  • Severe headache, stiff neck, or light hurting your eyes
  • Numbness around your buttocks or genitals, or you can't empty your bladder or bowels
  • Possible HIV exposure in the last 72 hours — you may need PEP, which must start fast: go to an emergency room now
  • You were sexually assaulted. Go to an emergency room for a sexual assault (SANE) exam and medicine to prevent infection; 24/7 support: 800-656-4673
  • Sudden pain or swelling in a testicle
  • You can't urinate at all
  • Pregnant, with pelvic pain or bleeding

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How it works

How your genital herpes visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the genital herpes intake

About 5 minutes, with photos if they help. Emergency and safety questions come first.

A clinician reviews it the same day

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reads everything and calls or videos you if they need more.

  3. 3
    You get a plan

If treatment is appropriate, a prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose.

  4. 4
    Follow-up is built in

A 48-hour check-in and secure messaging. If you need to be seen, a same-day visit at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or clear advice on where to go near you.

What these medicines may cost without insurance

Acyclovir 400 or 800 mg tablets30 tablets$11.93–$13.25

Generic prices are mail-order cash prices listed by Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company on October 15, 2026, including its $5.00 pharmacy fee and $5.25 standard shipping. A shorter course costs less.

Shown so you can plan, not to point you to a pharmacy. Any Texas pharmacy can fill your prescription, and its cash price may be higher or lower. With insurance, your plan sets your cost, and a cash purchase usually doesn't count toward your deductible. If you have Medicare or Medicaid, ask the pharmacy to use your coverage first. Prices change. Passion Health doesn't sell medicine and receives nothing from any pharmacy or drugmaker. A prescription is never guaranteed.

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Price & insurance

How much does an online genital herpes visit cost?

Quick evaluation
$59
  • A Texas-licensed clinician reviews your intake
  • A care plan, and a prescription if appropriate
  • 48-hour check-in
  • 14 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in message and 14 days of secure messaging. If you're not improving, we book a same-day clinic visit, or, if you're not near one of our clinics, tell you where to be seen near you.

Outbreak: 48-hour check-in. Suppression: 12-month plan; renewal at the renewal rate.

Questions

Questions about genital herpes care

How much does an online genital herpes visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $59 for a quick evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For genital herpes, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Why can't a first outbreak be diagnosed online?

Genital sores have several possible causes, including syphilis and other infections that need different treatment. A first outbreak should be tested with a swab of the sore, ideally within the first few days, and treated right away, because treatment works best when it starts early. We'll book you a same-day visit at a Passion Health clinic (or, if you're not near one of our clinics, we tell you where to be seen near you), and no online fee is charged. If you can't reach one of our clinics today, don't wait: go to an urgent care or your own clinician today for the swab and treatment. Wherever you're seen, ask for syphilis and HIV tests at the same visit.

Can daily medicine lower the chance of giving herpes to my partner?

Yes. Taking a daily antiviral lowers the number of outbreaks and reduces, but doesn't remove, the chance of passing herpes to a partner. Using condoms and avoiding sex during outbreaks lowers it further. Your clinician can talk through whether a daily plan fits you and your partner.

Should I get tested for other STIs?

If you have a new partner, or a partner may have other infections, testing is a good idea, since herpes treatment doesn't cover anything else. Our STD testing page explains the options, with samples collected at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.

I'm pregnant. Can I be treated online?

If you've had genital herpes diagnosed before and this is a usual outbreak, your clinician may treat it online and, with your consent, let your obstetric clinician know. A first outbreak during pregnancy needs to be seen the same day. Make sure your obstetric clinician knows you have herpes: most people are offered daily medicine from 36 weeks to lower the chance of an outbreak at delivery. If you're 36 weeks or more and have an outbreak, call your obstetric clinician today, and if you have sores or tingling when labor starts, tell your labor team right away.

Could someone else on my insurance find out about this visit?

It's possible. If you use insurance, your plan may send a statement to the policyholder — for example a parent or spouse — listing the visit, lab tests or medicine. To keep this off your plan, choose the cash price, pay for lab tests and medicine yourself, and ask the pharmacy not to bill your insurance. You can also ask us not to share care you've paid for in full with your plan, and ask your plan to send its mail to a different address. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE work differently, so ask us before your visit if this matters to you.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
