Short answer

Can I get online care for trichomoniasis in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Itching, discharge or burning? A clinician orders a trichomoniasis test, treats it if appropriate — including if a partner was diagnosed — and explains partner care. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $89, or use insurance. Labs, if needed, can be drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas. A prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose only if it's appropriate; controlled medicines are never prescribed online. If you have pain in your lower belly or pelvis, or new pain during sex, with or without fever, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you), and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by a tiny parasite. Many people have no symptoms; others notice itching, burning, a frothy yellow-green discharge with a strong smell, or pain when urinating. Men usually have few or no symptoms. It's treatable, but without treatment it can last for months and raise the risk of getting or passing on HIV.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • Itching, burning or unusual discharge that could be an STI
  • A partner was diagnosed with trichomoniasis
  • You tested positive and need treatment
  • You were treated and need a retest

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • Pain in your lower belly or pelvis, or new pain during sex, with or without fever Same day
  • Sores, blisters or ulcers on your genitals Within days
  • New joint pain, a skin rash, or red eyes along with genital symptoms Same day
  • Fever with pain in your side or back Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Emergency room now

  • Possible HIV exposure in the last 72 hours — you may need PEP, which must start fast: go to an emergency room now
  • You were sexually assaulted. Go to an emergency room for a sexual assault (SANE) exam and medicine to prevent infection; 24/7 support: 800-656-4673
  • Sudden pain or swelling in a testicle
  • You can't urinate at all
  • Pregnant, with pelvic pain or bleeding

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How it works

How your trichomoniasis visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the trichomoniasis intake

Upload prior results or home readings if you have them.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

If labs would help, the order goes to a Passion Health clinic, or to any CPL patient service center in Texas.

  3. 3
    Results go to your clinician

Your clinician reviews them and contacts you with your plan.

  4. 4
    Follow-up on a schedule

Check-ins and repeat labs timed to your condition; 30 days of messaging.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • A lab test, using a urine sample or swab, to confirm the infection, plus testing for other STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV, if appropriate
  • An antibiotic taken by mouth, if appropriate, for a positive test or if a partner was diagnosed — the course can differ for women and men, and in pregnancy or while breastfeeding
  • No sex until you and your partners have finished treatment and any symptoms are gone
  • Guidance on how your partners can get their own evaluation and treatment, to avoid passing it back and forth
  • A retest about 3 months after treatment for women, because reinfection is common

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in, 30 days of secure messaging, and lab follow-up when labs were ordered.

Questions

Questions about trichomoniasis care

How much does an online trichomoniasis visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $89 for a standard evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Labs and imaging are billed separately. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For trichomoniasis, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, you can have them drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth, or at any CPL patient service center in Texas. With insurance, the lab bills your plan directly. Self-pay tests that are in the Passion Health Blood Work catalog are billed at Blood Work prices; tests that aren't are billed by the lab (CPL) at its self-pay prices, and we give you an estimate before you go. Your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Does my partner need treatment too?

Yes. Partners from the past 60 days should be tested and treated, even if they have no symptoms — otherwise the infection can pass back and forth between you. Your partners need their own evaluation: we can't prescribe trichomoniasis treatment for a partner we haven't seen. They can start an online visit with us or see their own clinician, and if they've been exposed they can usually be treated at that visit without waiting for their own result. Avoid sex until you and your partners have finished treatment and any symptoms are gone.

Can men get trichomoniasis?

Yes. Men can carry and pass on trichomoniasis, usually with few or no symptoms. When they do have symptoms, it's often itching or irritation inside the penis, burning after urinating or ejaculating, or some discharge. Testing is especially worth doing if a partner has been diagnosed.

Could someone else on my insurance find out about this visit?

It's possible. If you use insurance, your plan may send a statement to the policyholder — for example a parent or spouse — listing the visit, lab tests or medicine. To keep this off your plan, choose the cash price, pay for lab tests and medicine yourself, and ask the pharmacy not to bill your insurance. You can also ask us not to share care you've paid for in full with your plan, and ask your plan to send its mail to a different address. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE work differently, so ask us before your visit if this matters to you.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
