Short answer

Can I get a prescription refill online in Texas?

Yes, if you're an established Passion Health patient continuing a plan a clinician already started. Already on a plan Passion Health started? A short check-in, a review of your latest reading or lab, and a refill if it's appropriate. A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews your request the same day — 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends — for $39, and sends any refill to your pharmacy. Controlled medicines are never renewed online. If you have new symptoms or side effects, or your condition has gotten worse since your last visit, you need an in-person visit within a few days instead, and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about prescription renewal

A prescription renewal is a short check-in that lets a clinician continue a medicine you already take for a stable condition. Before sending a prescription refill, the clinician reviews your last visit, checks a recent reading or lab result against your goal, and asks about side effects. It is for patients continuing a plan Passion Health started.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • You're a Passion Health patient continuing a medicine and plan we started
  • Your condition is stable, with no new symptoms or side effects
  • You have a recent reading or lab result your plan calls for, such as a blood pressure, A1c, or TSH
  • For ongoing conditions like blood pressure or diabetes, you're uninsured (insured patients book with their own Passion Health clinician)
  • The medicine isn't a controlled substance

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • New symptoms or side effects, or your condition has gotten worse since your last visit Within days
  • The medicine is a controlled substance, such as a stimulant, a benzodiazepine, a sleep medicine like zolpidem, an opioid, pregabalin, or testosterone Within days
  • Your last Passion Health visit for this condition was more than 12 months ago Within days
  • You're pregnant or could be pregnant Same day
  • The medicine needs regular blood tests or specialist monitoring, for example warfarin, lithium, methotrexate, amiodarone, seizure medicines, insulin or steroid replacement Within days
  • You're trying to get pregnant, or you're breastfeeding Within days
  • Blood pressure 180/120 or higher on 2 readings 5 minutes apart, without chest pain, breathing trouble, weakness, numbness, vision change, confusion or a severe headache Same day
  • Repeated blood sugars under 70, or a low where you needed someone's help Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • Blood pressure 180/120 or higher with chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, vision change, confusion or a severe headache

Emergency room now

  • Blood sugar over 300 with vomiting, belly pain, fast or deep breathing, or confusion

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

Already a Passion Health patient?

If Passion Health is your primary care practice and you have insurance, book this with your own clinician — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan, not just this one problem. Online renewal is only for patients continuing a plan a Passion Health clinician started. If you have insurance and the medicine is for blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol or thyroid, book with your own clinician instead.

How it works

How your prescription renewal visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the prescription renewal intake

About 5 minutes, with photos if they help. Emergency and safety questions come first.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reads everything and calls or videos you if they need more.

  3. 3
    You get a plan

If treatment is appropriate, a prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose.

  4. 4
    Follow-up is built in

A 48-hour check-in and secure messaging. If you need to be seen, a same-day visit at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or clear advice on where to go near you.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • A review of your last Passion Health visit note and the plan your clinician set
  • Your latest home reading or lab result, checked against your target
  • A refill of the same medicine and dose, if your plan supports it
  • A lab order before the next refill, if one is due (billed separately)
  • A full visit instead, if anything has changed

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your plan calls for a lab check before the next refill, you can have it drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.
Price & insurance

How much does an online prescription renewal visit cost?

Renewal / follow-up
$39
  • Short check-in and refill review
  • Refill of your current dose, or a dose change your plan already calls for
  • For established patients continuing a plan

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs your clinician orders are priced through Passion Health Blood Work if you self-pay, or billed to your plan directly by the lab (CPL) if you use insurance; imaging is billed by the imaging center and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

Your clinician sets the next renewal date and any labs or readings needed before it.

If your plan supports it, the refill goes to your pharmacy with the date your next reading, lab, or visit is due. Ongoing conditions also need a regular visit with your Passion Health clinician; we'll tell you when one is due.

Labs your clinician may order

Priced through Passion Health Blood Work

Which test depends on the medicine being renewed: A1c for diabetes, a lipid panel for cholesterol, a metabolic panel for blood pressure medicines, TSH for thyroid. Your clinician orders only the one that applies. Ordered only if your clinician decides it's needed — the visit price never includes a test you don't need.

All Blood Work tests
Hemoglobin A1cThree-month blood sugar average$12
Lipid panelTotal cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides, LDL$12
Comprehensive metabolic panelGlucose, kidney, liver, electrolytes (14 results)$12
TSHMain thyroid test$20
Draw and clinician-review fee One per order of single tests; not charged when the order includes a Blood Work bundle$29

Typical self-pay total with one test (the lowest-priced shown): $39 visit + $41 labs = $80

Self-pay prices are billed by Passion Health. If you use insurance — including Medicare and Medicaid — the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly for the tests under your plan's lab benefits, and the prices above don't apply. Blood is drawn at a Passion Health clinic in North Texas or at any CPL patient service center in Texas; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Questions

Questions about prescription renewal care

How much does an online prescription renewal visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $39 for a renewal / follow-up, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For prescription renewal, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

I'm already a Passion Health patient. Can I use this?

If you have insurance, we'll book you with your own Passion Health clinician instead — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan. If you're an established patient without insurance, continuing a treatment we already prescribed uses the $39 follow-up rate; a new problem uses this page's price.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, they're priced through Passion Health Blood Work: for prescription renewal that's usually one of Hemoglobin A1c, Lipid panel, Comprehensive metabolic panel or TSH, from $41 including the $29 draw-and-review fee, through Passion Health Blood Work (self-pay prices, billed by Passion Health). If you use insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly and those prices don't apply. You can have blood drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth or walk into any CPL patient service center in Texas with a photo ID; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Who can use a prescription renewal?

Patients continuing a medicine and plan that a Passion Health clinician started. For ongoing conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol or thyroid, renewal online is for uninsured patients; if you have insurance, book with your own Passion Health clinician, in person or by video, billed as a normal visit. The intake checks this before anything is charged.

Can you renew a prescription from another doctor?

Not through a renewal. If another practice started your medicine, choose the page for your condition instead. That visit includes a full review of your history and records, so the clinician can decide whether to continue your current treatment or adjust it. Have your last records or pharmacy label ready to upload.

Can you renew controlled medicines such as ADHD stimulants?

No. Controlled medicines, including stimulants, benzodiazepines, sleep medicines such as zolpidem, opioids, pregabalin and testosterone, are not renewed through this online form. If a Passion Health physician already prescribes one for you, book a follow-up with that physician, who can continue it in person or by video when appropriate.

How can I get my prescription refilled online?

If you're an established Passion Health patient continuing a plan a clinician already started, answer the short renewal intake and a Texas-licensed clinician reviews it the same day. If it's appropriate, the refill goes to your pharmacy; sometimes labs or a visit are needed first. Controlled medicines are never renewed online.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
