Short answer

Can I get online care for heart palpitations in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Fluttering, pounding, or skipped beats? A clinician reviews your symptoms and watch readings, and usually asks for an ECG, at one of our clinics or near you. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $89, or use insurance. If labs are needed, your clinician usually orders the Thyroid panel (TSH and free T4), Complete blood count and Comprehensive metabolic panel, $71, through Passion Health Blood Work, drawn at a Passion Health clinic or any CPL patient service center in Texas; with insurance, the lab bills your plan directly. A prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose only if it's appropriate; controlled medicines are never prescribed online. If you have palpitations that come on during exercise or physical effort, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you), and you don't pay the online fee. Already a Passion Health patient with insurance? We book you with your own clinician instead.

About the condition

What to know about heart palpitations

Heart palpitations are the feeling that your heart is racing, pounding, fluttering or skipping beats. They are common and often harmless, set off by stress, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, poor sleep or some medicines. Sometimes they come from an overactive thyroid, anemia, or a heart rhythm problem such as atrial fibrillation, which needs checking.

Are skipped heartbeats dangerous?

Skipped or extra beats are usually early beats from the upper or lower chambers of the heart (often called PACs or PVCs), and in a healthy heart they are often harmless. They can feel like a thump, a pause or a flip in your chest. Your clinician may still want an ECG, and sometimes a heart monitor or echocardiogram, especially if the beats are frequent or you have heart disease.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • You notice occasional fluttering, pounding or skipped beats without chest pain, fainting or shortness of breath
  • You have a smartwatch ECG or heart-rate alert you want reviewed
  • You want to know whether caffeine, a medicine, your thyroid or anxiety could be the cause
  • You can get an ECG if your clinician asks for one, at a Passion Health clinic or at a clinic or urgent care near you

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • Palpitations that come on during exercise or physical effort Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • Palpitations with chest pain, shortness of breath, or fainting or nearly fainting
  • A heart rate over 150 that doesn't settle within a few minutes of rest
  • Leg swelling with shortness of breath
  • An arm or leg that is suddenly cold, pale and painful
  • Blood pressure 180/120 or higher with headache, chest pain, vision change or confusion

Emergency room now

  • Palpitations and you have heart failure, a weak heart muscle (cardiomyopathy) or a past heart attack, or your implanted defibrillator has given you a shock
  • A resting heart rate under 45 with dizziness or weakness
  • One leg suddenly swollen, red, warm or painful

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

Already a Passion Health patient?

If Passion Health is your primary care practice and you have insurance, book this with your own clinician — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan, not just this one problem. Online heart palpitations care is for new patients, uninsured patients and patients outside Dallas–Fort Worth; established patients without insurance pay the $39 renewal rate.

How it works

How your heart palpitations visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the heart palpitations intake

Upload prior results or home readings if you have them.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

If labs would help, the order goes to a Passion Health clinic, or to any CPL patient service center in Texas.

  3. 3
    Results go to your clinician

Your clinician reviews them and contacts you with your plan.

  4. 4
    Follow-up on a schedule

Check-ins and repeat labs timed to your condition; 30 days of messaging.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • Reviewing when the palpitations happen, how long they last, and triggers such as caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, decongestants or stimulant medicines
  • An in-clinic ECG, which your clinician will usually ask for
  • Blood tests such as thyroid levels, a blood count and electrolytes
  • A wearable heart monitor or an echocardiogram if the cause isn't clear
  • Treatment of any cause found, or a cardiology referral if appropriate

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • Your clinician will usually ask for an ECG; if they recommend one, you can have it at a Passion Health clinic, or your clinician can send the order to a clinic or urgent care near you.
  • If your clinician recommends thyroid or other blood tests, you can have them drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.
Price & insurance

How much does an online heart palpitations visit cost?

Standard evaluation
$89
  • Everything in Quick
  • Lab orders when needed (labs billed separately)
  • 30 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs your clinician orders are priced through Passion Health Blood Work if you self-pay, or billed to your plan directly by the lab (CPL) if you use insurance; imaging is billed by the imaging center and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in, 30 days of secure messaging, and lab follow-up when labs were ordered.

Your clinician reviews your ECG and lab results with you. If a heart monitor or echocardiogram is needed, they'll explain what it shows and whether you need a cardiology referral.

Labs your clinician may order

Priced through Passion Health Blood Work

Thyroid, blood count and electrolytes are the usual first tests for palpitations. Ordered only if your clinician decides it's needed — the visit price never includes a test you don't need.

All Blood Work tests
Thyroid panelTSH and free T4$49
Complete blood countRed cells, white cells, platelets (14 results)$10
Comprehensive metabolic panelGlucose, kidney, liver, electrolytes (14 results)$12

Typical self-pay total: $89 visit + $71 labs = $160

Self-pay prices are billed by Passion Health. If you use insurance — including Medicare and Medicaid — the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly for the tests under your plan's lab benefits, and the prices above don't apply. Blood is drawn at a Passion Health clinic in North Texas or at any CPL patient service center in Texas; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Questions

Questions about heart palpitations care

How much does an online heart palpitations visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $89 for a standard evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Labs and imaging are billed separately. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For heart palpitations, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

I'm already a Passion Health patient. Can I use this?

If you have insurance, we'll book you with your own Passion Health clinician instead — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan. If you're an established patient without insurance, continuing a treatment we already prescribed uses the $39 follow-up rate; a new problem uses this page's price.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, they're priced through Passion Health Blood Work: for heart palpitations that's usually the Thyroid panel (TSH and free T4), Complete blood count and Comprehensive metabolic panel, $71, through Passion Health Blood Work (self-pay prices, billed by Passion Health). If you use insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly and those prices don't apply. You can have blood drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth or walk into any CPL patient service center in Texas with a photo ID; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Why do I need an ECG if this is an online visit?

An ECG records your heart's electrical activity and is the standard first test for palpitations, and it can't be done through a form or photo. Your clinician will usually ask you to visit a Passion Health clinic for one. A smartwatch tracing adds helpful information but doesn't replace it. If you live outside DFW, your clinician will talk with you about where to get one.

Can anxiety cause heart palpitations?

Yes. Stress and anxiety release adrenaline, which can make your heart race or pound. But anxiety shouldn't be assumed to be the cause until a heart rhythm problem, a thyroid issue or anemia has been ruled out. If anxiety turns out to be part of the picture, your clinician can talk with you about options, including a video visit for anxiety care.

Can my smartwatch tell if I have AFib?

Many smartwatches can record a single-lead ECG and flag a possible irregular rhythm such as atrial fibrillation. They can miss problems or give false alarms, so they don't replace a standard 12-lead ECG. Uploading a recording taken while you have symptoms helps your clinician decide what to check next.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
