Short answer

Can I get online care for varicose veins in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Bulging veins, aching legs, or ankle swelling? Send photos and a clinician reviews them, checks for vein problems, and plans next steps. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $89, or use insurance. Labs, if needed, can be drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas. A prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose only if it's appropriate; controlled medicines are never prescribed online. If you have an open sore or ulcer on your lower leg or ankle, you need an in-person visit within a few days instead, and you don't pay the online fee. Already a Passion Health patient with insurance? We book you with your own clinician instead.

About the condition

What to know about varicose veins

Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins, usually in the legs, that you can see just under the skin. They form when tiny valves inside the veins weaken and blood pools. They are more common with age, in women, during pregnancy, with extra weight, and in people who stand for long periods or have a family history.

What is chronic venous insufficiency?

Chronic venous insufficiency means your leg veins can't move blood back to the heart well, so it pools in the lower legs. Signs include ankle swelling that's worse at the end of the day, aching or heavy legs, brownish or itchy skin near the ankles, and, in later stages, slow-healing sores. Compression, raising your legs and staying active often help, and an ultrasound can show how well the veins are working.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • You have visible varicose or spider veins and want them evaluated
  • Your legs ache or feel heavy, or you have long-standing ankle swelling along with visible varicose veins
  • You have darker or itchy skin around your ankles and want to know if it's vein-related
  • You want advice on compression stockings, or on whether an ultrasound or vein specialist makes sense

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • An open sore or ulcer on your lower leg or ankle Within days
  • A varicose vein that bled and has now stopped Same day
  • Leg swelling that is new (in the last 3 months), in one leg only, or comes with weight gain Within days
  • A hard, red, tender cord along a vein Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • Shortness of breath or chest pain along with leg swelling
  • A varicose vein that is bleeding now and doesn't stop after 10 minutes of firm pressure (lie down and raise your leg above your heart while you press), or you feel faint
  • Racing or pounding heartbeat with fainting, chest pain or shortness of breath
  • An arm or leg that is suddenly cold, pale and painful
  • Blood pressure 180/120 or higher with headache, chest pain, vision change or confusion

Emergency room now

  • One leg is suddenly swollen, red, warm or painful
  • Resting heart rate over 120, or under 45 with dizziness

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

Already a Passion Health patient?

If Passion Health is your primary care practice and you have insurance, book this with your own clinician — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan, not just this one problem. Online varicose veins care is for new patients, uninsured patients and patients outside Dallas–Fort Worth; established patients without insurance pay the $39 renewal rate.

How it works

How your varicose veins visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the varicose veins intake

Upload prior results or home readings if you have them.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

If labs would help, the order goes to a Passion Health clinic, or to any CPL patient service center in Texas.

  3. 3
    Results go to your clinician

Your clinician reviews them and contacts you with your plan.

  4. 4
    Follow-up on a schedule

Check-ins and repeat labs timed to your condition; 30 days of messaging.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • Reviewing your leg photos, symptoms, and any history of blood clots, heart or kidney disease
  • Compression stockings, leg raising, activity and skin-care advice
  • A venous ultrasound to check the vein valves and rule out a clot, if appropriate
  • Checking other causes of swelling, such as medicines or heart, kidney or thyroid problems, with blood tests if needed
  • A referral to a vein or vascular specialist if symptoms persist or skin changes develop

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your clinician orders labs, you can have them drawn at a Passion Health clinic, or at any CPL patient service center in Texas. Self-pay labs are priced through Passion Health Blood Work, or billed to your insurance.
  • If your clinician recommends a venous ultrasound of your legs, they can refer you to an imaging center for it.
  • If your clinician recommends seeing a vein or vascular specialist, they can refer you.

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in, 30 days of secure messaging, and lab follow-up when labs were ordered.

Compression and self-care usually need a few months to judge. Your clinician may check in after an ultrasound or a trial of compression and refer you on if symptoms persist.

Questions

Questions about varicose veins care

How much does an online varicose veins visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $89 for a standard evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Labs and imaging are billed separately. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For varicose veins, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

I'm already a Passion Health patient. Can I use this?

If you have insurance, we'll book you with your own Passion Health clinician instead — in person or by video, billed to your plan like any visit, with no online fee. Your clinician knows your history and can adjust your whole plan. If you're an established patient without insurance, continuing a treatment we already prescribed uses the $39 follow-up rate; a new problem uses this page's price.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, you can have them drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth, or at any CPL patient service center in Texas. With insurance, the lab bills your plan directly. Self-pay tests that are in the Passion Health Blood Work catalog are billed at Blood Work prices; tests that aren't are billed by the lab (CPL) at its self-pay prices, and we give you an estimate before you go. Your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Do compression stockings really help?

For many people, yes. Graduated compression stockings support the leg veins and can ease aching, heaviness and swelling, though they don't make existing varicose veins disappear. A good fit matters, so measure your legs in the morning before swelling builds. Ask your clinician first if you have poor circulation in your legs or diabetes, because compression may not be safe for you; your clinician may check an ankle-brachial index (ABI), a quick test of the blood flow to your feet, before recommending firmer stockings (above 20 mmHg).

Are varicose veins dangerous?

Most varicose veins are a comfort and appearance concern rather than a danger. Over time, though, poor vein flow can lead to skin changes, ulcers, or a clot in a vein near the surface. A leg that suddenly becomes swollen, red and painful can mean a deep vein clot and needs urgent care. Your clinician can tell you which signs to watch for.

Can varicose veins be treated online?

Procedures to close or remove veins are done in person by vein specialists. Online, your clinician can review your photos and symptoms, look for other causes of swelling, advise on compression and self-care, and recommend an ultrasound or specialist referral if appropriate. Some health plans ask for a trial of compression before they cover a vein procedure.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
