Short answer

Can I get online care for itchy skin in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Itching that won't let up, with or without a rash? A Texas clinician looks for the cause and may suggest labs. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $59, or use insurance. If labs are needed, your clinician usually orders the Energy & Iron panel (Blood count, metabolic panel, thyroid, iron studies, B12 and folate), $119, through Passion Health Blood Work, drawn at a Passion Health clinic or any CPL patient service center in Texas; with insurance, the lab bills your plan directly. A prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose only if it's appropriate; controlled medicines are never prescribed online. If you have yellowing of your skin or eyes, dark urine, or pale stools, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you), and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about itchy skin

Itching (pruritus) is an urge to scratch that can affect one area or the whole body. Most itching comes from dry skin, eczema, hives, insect bites or scabies. When itching is widespread with no rash, it can sometimes point to a problem with the liver, kidneys, thyroid, iron levels or blood, or a medicine side effect.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • Itching from dry skin, especially in winter or with age
  • Itching with a rash you can photograph
  • Itching all over without a clear rash, lasting more than 2 weeks
  • Itching that started after a new medicine or product
  • Several people at home itching, worse at night

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • Yellowing of your skin or eyes, dark urine, or pale stools Same day
  • Weight loss you can't explain, drenching night sweats, or fevers Same day
  • Swollen lumps in your neck, armpits or groin Within days
  • You're pregnant and have intense itching, especially on your palms or soles Same day
  • Redness that is spreading fast Same day
  • A rash on or around your eye Same day
  • Swelling of your face or eyelids, without trouble breathing Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • Swelling of your lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing

Emergency room now

  • A rash with fever, and you feel very unwell
  • Widespread blistering or peeling skin, or sores in your mouth or eyes
  • Skin that is turning dark purple or black

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How it works

How your itchy skin visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the itchy skin intake

Upload prior results or home readings if you have them.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

If labs would help, the order goes to a Passion Health clinic, or to any CPL patient service center in Texas.

  3. 3
    Results go to your clinician

Your clinician reviews them and contacts you with your plan.

  4. 4
    Follow-up on a schedule

Check-ins timed to your condition; 14 days of messaging, extended while ordered labs are pending.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • A photo and history review of your skin, medicines and recent changes
  • Moisturizer and bathing changes for dry skin, plus anti-itch options
  • A prescription-strength topical steroid if a rash is present, if appropriate
  • Scabies treatment, if that's the likely cause; close contacts usually need treatment at the same time, so other adults can start their own online visit and children should see their own clinician
  • Blood tests for whole-body itch without a rash, such as blood counts, liver, kidney and thyroid tests, and iron levels

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your clinician recommends blood tests to look for a cause of whole-body itching, you can have them drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.

How much does an online itchy skin visit cost?

Quick evaluation
$59
  • A Texas-licensed clinician reviews your intake
  • A care plan, and a prescription if appropriate
  • 48-hour check-in
  • 14 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs your clinician orders are priced through Passion Health Blood Work if you self-pay, or billed to your plan directly by the lab (CPL) if you use insurance; imaging is billed by the imaging center and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in message and 14 days of secure messaging. If you're not improving, we book a same-day clinic visit, or, if you're not near one of our clinics, tell you where to be seen near you.

Labs your clinician may order

Priced through Passion Health Blood Work

Blood count, liver and kidney function, thyroid and iron: the usual itch work-up. Ordered only if your clinician decides it's needed — the visit price never includes a test you don't need.

All Blood Work tests
Energy & Iron panelBlood count, metabolic panel, thyroid, iron studies, B12 and folate$119

Typical self-pay total: $59 visit + $119 labs = $178

Self-pay prices are billed by Passion Health. If you use insurance — including Medicare and Medicaid — the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly for the tests under your plan's lab benefits, and the prices above don't apply. Blood is drawn at a Passion Health clinic in North Texas or at any CPL patient service center in Texas; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Questions

Questions about itchy skin care

How much does an online itchy skin visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $59 for a quick evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Labs and imaging are billed separately. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For itchy skin, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, they're priced through Passion Health Blood Work: for itchy skin that's usually the Energy & Iron panel (Blood count, metabolic panel, thyroid, iron studies, B12 and folate), $119, through Passion Health Blood Work (self-pay prices, billed by Passion Health). If you use insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly and those prices don't apply. You can have blood drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth or walk into any CPL patient service center in Texas with a photo ID; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Why do I itch all over but have no rash?

The most common reason is dry skin, especially in winter, after hot showers, and as skin ages. Other causes include medicines and, less often, liver, kidney or thyroid problems, low iron, or blood conditions. If moisturizing and gentler bathing don't help within a couple of weeks, your clinician may suggest blood tests to look for a cause.

Could my itching be scabies?

Scabies is caused by tiny mites that burrow into the skin. It causes intense itching, often worse at night, with small bumps or short lines between the fingers and on the wrists, waist, armpits or groin. It spreads through close skin contact, so people you live with often itch too. If scabies is likely, everyone in close contact usually needs treatment at the same time, even if they don't itch yet. Your clinician treats you; other adults in your home can start their own online visit, and children should see their own clinician.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
