Short answer

Can a doctor look at my rash online in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Itchy, red, or spreading rash? Upload clear photos and a clinician reviews them the same day, with a plan for relief and next steps. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $59, or use insurance. Medicines a clinician may consider include triamcinolone cream, clotrimazole or terbinafine cream (antifungal) and cephalexin or trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (infection) — never controlled medicines, and a prescription is never guaranteed. If you have red streaks spreading out from the rash or sore, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you), and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about rash

A skin rash is an area of irritated, red, itchy or bumpy skin. Common causes include eczema, contact with an irritant or allergen, fungal infections, heat and sweat, viruses and reactions to medicines. Some rashes are mild and clear with simple care, while others need prescription treatment or an in-person exam. Photos help a clinician tell them apart.

Rash in skin folds (intertrigo)

Intertrigo is a red, raw or itchy rash where skin rubs on skin and traps moisture — under the breasts, between belly folds, in the groin or in the armpits. It is more common in hot weather and with diabetes or extra body weight, and yeast or bacteria can infect the area. Keeping the folds clean and dry helps, and photos let the clinician see whether an antifungal or another treatment fits.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • A new or itchy rash you can photograph clearly
  • Eczema or contact dermatitis flares, including poison ivy
  • Fungal rashes such as ringworm, or a rash in skin folds
  • A minor skin infection without a boil or abscess

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • Red streaks spreading out from the rash or sore Same day
  • A painful, swollen lump that has pus or looks like it could drain (a boil or abscess) Same day
  • A red, warm, or draining area on your face, hand, or over a joint — or on your foot if you have diabetes Same day
  • The area began with an animal or human bite Same day
  • A mole or dark spot that is new, changing, bleeding, or looks different from your other moles Within days
  • A red area that is warm, swollen, painful or draining pus, and you have diabetes or a weakened immune system Same day
  • Redness that is spreading fast (getting bigger over hours), or a red area that is hot, swollen and very painful Same day
  • A rash on or around your eye Same day
  • Swelling of your face or eyelids, without trouble breathing Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • Swelling of your lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing

Emergency room now

  • A rash with fever, and you feel very unwell
  • Widespread blistering or peeling skin, or sores in your mouth or eyes
  • Skin that is turning dark purple or black

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

What these medicines may cost without insurance

Example cash prices for the medicines listed above

Cephalexin 250 or 500 mg capsules30 capsules$12.45–$12.92
Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole tablets30 tablets$11.37–$11.42

Generic prices are mail-order cash prices listed by Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company on October 15, 2026, including its $5.00 pharmacy fee and $5.25 standard shipping. A shorter course costs less.

Shown so you can plan, not to point you to a pharmacy. Any Texas pharmacy can fill your prescription, and its cash price may be higher or lower. With insurance, your plan sets your cost, and a cash purchase usually doesn't count toward your deductible. If you have Medicare or Medicaid, ask the pharmacy to use your coverage first. Prices change. Passion Health doesn't sell medicine and receives nothing from any pharmacy or drugmaker. A prescription is never guaranteed.

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Price & insurance

How much does an online rash visit cost?

Quick evaluation
$59
  • A Texas-licensed clinician reviews your intake
  • A care plan, and a prescription if appropriate
  • 48-hour check-in
  • 14 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in message and 14 days of secure messaging. If you're not improving, we book a same-day clinic visit, or, if you're not near one of our clinics, tell you where to be seen near you.

Skin infections get a 24-hour check-in. Eczema and other ongoing rashes get 14 days of messaging and a planned renewal.

Questions

Questions about rash care

How much does an online rash visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $59 for a quick evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For rash, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

What makes a good rash photo?

Use daylight or bright indoor light, without flash. Take one close-up that's in focus and one from farther away that shows where the rash is on your body. Photograph the worst area, and place a coin next to it for size if you can. For a rash in a skin fold, gently hold the skin apart.

Can you tell if my rash is a fungal infection?

Often, yes. Fungal rashes such as ringworm or a yeast rash in skin folds have typical patterns that show in photos. If the picture isn't clear, or a cream hasn't worked, your clinician may suggest an in-person visit. Steroid creams alone can make some fungal rashes worse, so tell the clinician what you've already used.

Do I need to see a dermatologist?

Most rashes can be managed by a primary care clinician. If yours doesn't respond to treatment, your clinician may refer you to a dermatologist. A new or changing mole needs an in-person skin check rather than an online visit.

Is a steroid cream right for every rash?

No. Steroid strength is matched to where the rash is. The face, groin and skin folds get a milder steroid, or none, and only for a short course, because stronger creams can thin the skin there. A steroid isn't used on its own where a fungal rash is likely, since it can let the fungus spread. Your clinician tells you how much to use and when to stop.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
