Program Overview

More Than a Prescription

Some programs focus only on medication. Others give you a diet plan and leave you to manage everything alone.

WeightCare begins by understanding your health, your previous weight-loss experiences and what may be making weight management difficult.

We do not require you to purchase branded supplements, meal replacements or prepackaged food.

Your care may include:

  • A comprehensive medical and weight-history evaluation
  • Review of current medications and medical conditions
  • A personalized nutrition and activity strategy
  • Sleep, stress and behavioral-health assessment
  • Evaluation for prescription weight-management medication
  • Medication titration and safety monitoring when prescribed
  • Weight, waist, blood-pressure and health-marker monitoring
  • Help with medication prior authorization
  • Coordination with your Passion Health primary-care team
  • A long-term weight-maintenance plan

Medication Standards

Medication as Part of the Treatment Plan

Prescription medication can be helpful for some patients, but it is not appropriate for everyone.

When medication is appropriate, Passion Health generally prioritizes FDA-approved weight-management treatments.

Medication selection is individualized. WeightCare does not guarantee that a particular medication, including a GLP-1 or GIP/GLP-1 medication, will be prescribed, approved by insurance, available at a pharmacy or clinically appropriate for you.

Your clinician will review:

  • Your medical and family history
  • Current medications
  • Previous weight-management treatments
  • Pregnancy plans
  • Possible contraindications
  • Medication interactions
  • Potential benefits and risks
  • Insurance coverage and affordability
  • Your ability to safely follow the treatment plan
Compounded Medication

Compounded Weight Loss Medication

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review compounded products for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are marketed.

Passion Health does not describe compounded medications as generic, the same as or equivalent to an FDA-approved medication.

A compounded medication may be considered only when:

  • A clinician identifies a specific patient need
  • The medication is clinically appropriate
  • The prescription is legally permissible
  • The supplying pharmacy meets applicable requirements
  • The patient receives appropriate counseling and monitoring
Program Eligibility

Who May Qualify

WeightCare currently serves adults age 18 and older.

Prescription weight-management medication may be considered for certain adults with:

  • A body mass index of 30 or higher
  • A body mass index of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related medical condition

Important Eligibility Notes

Eligibility depends on the specific medication, FDA labeling, clinical circumstances and insurance requirements.

WeightCare is not initially offered as a pediatric program.

Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not candidates for weight-loss medication.

Patients with an active eating disorder, unstable psychiatric condition, severe symptoms or possible secondary cause of weight gain may require additional evaluation or a different level of care.

Why WeightCare

Why Choose Passion Health WeightCare

Your Care Is Medically Connected

Your WeightCare clinician can coordinate with Passion Health primary care and other participating services rather than treating weight as an isolated problem.

We Plan for Maintenance

Our goal is long-term weight management. We help you build a medically appropriate strategy for maintaining progress.

Patient Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications such as Wegovy or Zepbound?

Passion Health clinicians evaluate patients for FDA-approved weight-management medications, including GLP-1-based treatments, when clinically appropriate. Enrollment does not guarantee a prescription.

Is medication included in WeightCare Direct?

No. Prescription medications, compounded medications, laboratory testing and imaging are separate from the WeightCare Direct membership fee.

Will my insurance cover weight-loss medication?

Coverage varies significantly. Some plans cover FDA-approved weight-management medications, while others exclude them or require prior authorization.

What happens if my insurance denies the medication?

Your clinician can discuss covered alternatives, nonmedication treatment, affordability resources when available and transparent self-pay options.

Can I participate without taking medication?

Yes. Medication is one possible component of WeightCare. Patients can receive medical evaluation, lifestyle guidance, monitoring and coordinated care without prescription medication.

How frequently will I be seen?

Follow-up frequency depends on your health and treatment plan. Patients starting or adjusting medication may be seen monthly. Stable patients may be followed every four to eight weeks or as clinically appropriate.

Can I use telehealth?

Eligible adults located in Texas may receive certain WeightCare visits through telehealth. An in-person evaluation or testing may still be required.

Do I need a referral?

Most patients do not need a referral, but certain insurance plans may require one.

Do you guarantee weight loss?

No. Results vary based on medical conditions, treatment selection, medication response, nutrition, activity, adherence and other individual factors.

What happens after I reach my goal?

Your clinician will help develop a maintenance plan that may include continued medical follow-up, nutrition and activity strategies, medication reassessment and monitoring for weight regain.
