Short answer

Can I get positive ANA specialist advice online in Texas?

Not yet. When it launches, this will be an eConsult: your Passion Health clinician asks a rheumatologist for written advice. You won't have a visit with the rheumatologist, and they won't take over your care. Until then, a Passion Health clinician can see you in person in Dallas–Fort Worth, usually the same day; elsewhere in Texas, ask your own clinician about a specialist referral. If you have new swelling in your legs or around your eyes, or foamy, dark or bloody urine, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you).

About the condition

What to know about positive ANA

An ANA (antinuclear antibody) test looks for antibodies that can target your own cells. A positive ANA is common — many healthy people, especially women and older adults, test positive and never develop disease. It can also be a clue to autoimmune conditions such as lupus or Sjögren's disease, so it is read alongside your symptoms.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

What this service will cover

  • A positive ANA on a recent blood test, and you want to know what it means
  • Mild symptoms such as joint aches, tiredness, dry eyes or mouth, or a rash after sun, with no emergency signs
  • A positive ANA found while checking something else, with no symptoms
  • Questions about which follow-up tests make sense, and whether you need a rheumatologist

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • New swelling in your legs or around your eyes, or foamy, dark or bloody urine Same day
  • New weakness that makes it hard to climb stairs, get up from a chair, or lift your arms Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Emergency room now

  • One joint suddenly hot, red and swollen, with fever
  • A new headache with jaw pain when chewing, a tender scalp, or any vision loss
  • A rash with fever and feeling very unwell, or sores in your mouth and eyes
  • Fingertips or toes turning black, or open sores on your fingertips

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How specialist input works

A Passion Health clinician evaluates you — online or by video — and stays responsible for your care. With your written consent, they send your history, results and your question to a specialist, who replies with written advice, usually within a few days. The specialist advises your clinician; they don't see you or take over your care. If they think you need to be seen in person, your clinician arranges a referral. How it will be billed is shown here before it opens.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • A review of why the test was done, the ANA level (titer) and pattern, and your symptoms. A low-level positive with no symptoms often needs no more testing.
  • More specific blood tests, a urine test or a blood count, if appropriate.
  • With your consent, a written eConsult to a rheumatologist, who advises your clinician and does not see you.
  • A referral to see a rheumatologist in person if your symptoms or results suggest an autoimmune condition.

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your clinician recommends follow-up blood or urine tests, you can have them done at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.

Questions

Questions about specialist input

How much does specialist input cost?

Specialist input isn't bookable yet. Its price, and whether the specialist's written advice is included, will be shown here before it opens. Until then, a Passion Health clinician can see you in person in Dallas–Fort Worth, billed like any clinic visit; elsewhere in Texas, ask your own clinician about a specialist referral.

Does the specialist see me?

No. A Passion Health clinician evaluates you and stays responsible for your care. With your consent, they send your history, results and question to a specialist, who replies with written advice — usually within a few days. If the specialist thinks you need to be seen in person, your clinician arranges a referral.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Does a positive ANA mean I have lupus?

Not on its own. Many healthy people have a positive ANA, especially at low levels, and most never develop lupus or another autoimmune disease. The result matters most when it comes with symptoms such as joint swelling, rashes, mouth sores or kidney changes. Your clinician looks at the level, the pattern and your symptoms together before deciding on any next step.

Do I need to see a rheumatologist?

Not always. If your ANA is low-level and you have no symptoms, your clinician may suggest watching for changes rather than more tests. If your symptoms or other results point toward an autoimmune condition, your clinician may ask a rheumatologist for written advice or refer you for an in-person rheumatology visit.

The Texas law behind this visit

Your Passion Health clinician forms the patient relationship and stays responsible for your care (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005, §111.007). The specialist gives written advice to that clinician with your documented consent and does not see you.
