Short answer

Can I get online care for tremor in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Shaky hands or voice? A clinician reviews your medicines, caffeine and thyroid, and plans tests or treatment. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $89, or use insurance. If labs are needed, your clinician usually orders the Thyroid panel (TSH and free T4) and Comprehensive metabolic panel, $61, through Passion Health Blood Work, drawn at a Passion Health clinic or any CPL patient service center in Texas; with insurance, the lab bills your plan directly. A prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose only if it's appropriate; controlled medicines are never prescribed online. If you have shaking that began after a head injury, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you), and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about tremor

A tremor is shaking you can't control, most often in the hands. Common causes include essential tremor, which often runs in families, as well as caffeine, stress, an overactive thyroid, some medicines and alcohol withdrawal. A tremor that shows up when your hands are resting, with slowness or stiffness, can be a sign of Parkinson's disease.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • Shaking in your hands when you hold something, write or eat, that has come on slowly
  • A tremor that seems worse with caffeine, stress, tiredness or a new medicine
  • Essential tremor already diagnosed, with questions about your treatment
  • Wanting thyroid labs and a medicine review before seeing a neurologist

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • Shaking that started within a few days of cutting back or stopping alcohol, or a sleeping or anxiety pill Same day
  • Shaking that began after a head injury Same day
  • A tremor that is worse when your hands are resting, with slowness, stiffness or a shuffling walk Within days
  • You've fallen, or nearly fallen, because of shaking or poor balance Within days
  • A new kind of headache after age 50 Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • A sudden, explosive "worst ever" headache
  • New weakness, numbness, trouble speaking or vision loss

Emergency room now

  • Shaking after cutting back or stopping alcohol or a sleeping or anxiety pill, with confusion, seeing or hearing things, a fever, a racing heart, or a past withdrawal seizure
  • Headache with fever and a stiff neck
  • A head injury while you take a blood thinner
  • Weakness that is getting worse
  • Numbness in the groin or buttocks, or losing control of your bladder or bowels

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How it works

How your tremor visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the tremor intake

Upload prior results or home readings if you have them.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

If labs would help, the order goes to a Passion Health clinic, or to any CPL patient service center in Texas.

  3. 3
    Results go to your clinician

Your clinician reviews them and contacts you with your plan.

  4. 4
    Follow-up on a schedule

Check-ins and repeat labs timed to your condition; 30 days of messaging.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • A review of every medicine and supplement you take, plus caffeine, alcohol and energy drinks, since many cause or worsen tremor.
  • A thyroid blood test (TSH) and other labs, if appropriate.
  • For essential tremor, a non-controlled medicine such as a beta-blocker, if appropriate.
  • An in-person neurology referral if your tremor needs a specialist's exam.
  • Benzodiazepines and other controlled medicines are not prescribed online. If one is ever considered, a Passion Health physician evaluates you first and starts it at an in-person visit.

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your clinician recommends a thyroid test (TSH), you can have it drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs your clinician orders are priced through Passion Health Blood Work if you self-pay, or billed to your plan directly by the lab (CPL) if you use insurance; imaging is billed by the imaging center and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in, 30 days of secure messaging, and lab follow-up when labs were ordered.

Labs your clinician may order

Priced through Passion Health Blood Work

An overactive thyroid and electrolyte problems are common treatable causes. Ordered only if your clinician decides it's needed — the visit price never includes a test you don't need.

All Blood Work tests
Thyroid panelTSH and free T4$49
Comprehensive metabolic panelGlucose, kidney, liver, electrolytes (14 results)$12

Typical self-pay total: $89 visit + $61 labs = $150

Self-pay prices are billed by Passion Health. If you use insurance — including Medicare and Medicaid — the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly for the tests under your plan's lab benefits, and the prices above don't apply. Blood is drawn at a Passion Health clinic in North Texas or at any CPL patient service center in Texas; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Questions

Questions about tremor care

How much does an online tremor visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $89 for a standard evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Labs and imaging are billed separately. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For tremor, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, they're priced through Passion Health Blood Work: for tremor that's usually the Thyroid panel (TSH and free T4) and Comprehensive metabolic panel, $61, through Passion Health Blood Work (self-pay prices, billed by Passion Health). If you use insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly and those prices don't apply. You can have blood drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth or walk into any CPL patient service center in Texas with a photo ID; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Can coffee or my medicines cause a tremor?

Yes. Caffeine, some asthma inhalers, certain antidepressants, lithium, some seizure medicines, too high a dose of thyroid hormone, and decongestants can all cause or worsen shaking. Stopping alcohol suddenly can too. Don't stop a prescribed medicine on your own — list everything you take in your intake, and your clinician will look at what may be playing a part.

Is my tremor Parkinson's disease?

Most tremors are not. Essential tremor, the most common type, usually shows when you use your hands — writing or holding a cup. A Parkinson's tremor is usually worst when your hands are resting and often comes with slowness or stiffness. That pattern needs an in-person exam, so we'll help you book a clinic visit if your answers point that way (or, if you're not near one of our clinics, we tell you where to be seen near you).

What if the shaking started after I cut back on alcohol or a sleeping or anxiety pill?

That shaking can be withdrawal, which can lead to seizures or a dangerous condition called delirium tremens, so it needs an in-person check today rather than an online review. Don't drive, and don't drink alcohol to stop the shaking. If you've stopped a prescribed sleeping or anxiety pill, contact the clinician who prescribes it today. Go to an emergency room now, or call 911, if you become confused, see or hear things that aren't there, or have a fever, a racing heart or a seizure.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
