Short answer

Can I get online care for SIBO in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Bloating, gas or loose stools that might be SIBO? A clinician reviews your history and labs and can refer you for a breath test. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $89, or use insurance. If labs are needed, your clinician usually orders Complete blood count, Vitamin B12 and Ferritin, $75 including the $29 draw-and-review fee, through Passion Health Blood Work (plus SIBO breath test, billed by the testing provider), drawn at a Passion Health clinic or any CPL patient service center in Texas; with insurance, the lab bills your plan directly. A prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose only if it's appropriate; controlled medicines are never prescribed online. If you have blood in your stool, you need an in-person visit within a few days instead, and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about SIBO

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) means more bacteria than usual are living in the small intestine, which can cause bloating, gas, belly pain and diarrhea. It's more likely after bowel surgery, with conditions that slow the gut such as diabetes, and with long-term use of acid-reducing medicines. Its symptoms overlap with IBS.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • Bloating, gas, belly discomfort or loose stools that have built up over months
  • A risk factor for SIBO, such as past bowel surgery, diabetes, or long-term acid-reducer use
  • IBS-like symptoms where you want SIBO checked
  • A past SIBO diagnosis with symptoms coming back

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • Blood in your stool Within days
  • Weight loss you didn't plan, or new numbness or tingling in your hands or feet Within days
  • Symptoms that wake you up at night, or new bowel changes after age 45 Within days
  • Yellow skin or eyes Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Emergency room now

  • Vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  • Black or maroon stools, or heavy bleeding from the rectum
  • Severe or worsening belly pain
  • A swollen belly with confusion
  • Vomiting with no stool or gas passing

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How it works

How your SIBO visit works

  1. 1
    Answer the SIBO intake

Upload prior results or home readings if you have them.

  2. 2
A clinician reviews it the same day

If labs would help, the order goes to a Passion Health clinic, or to any CPL patient service center in Texas.

  3. 3
    Results go to your clinician

Your clinician reviews them and contacts you with your plan.

  4. 4
    Follow-up on a schedule

Check-ins and repeat labs timed to your condition; 30 days of messaging.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • A review of your symptoms and risk factors, and blood tests such as a blood count, iron, vitamin B12 and a celiac test, if appropriate.
  • A breath test, if appropriate, which measures gases made by gut bacteria after you drink a sugar solution.
  • If SIBO is likely, a targeted antibiotic course, if appropriate.
  • Looking at the underlying cause — such as acid-reducer use, slow gut movement or blood sugar control — to lower the chance it comes back.

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your clinician recommends a breath test, they can refer you to a center that offers it.
  • If your clinician recommends blood tests, you can have them drawn at a Passion Health clinic or at any CPL patient service center in Texas.

How much does an online SIBO visit cost?

Standard evaluation
$89
  • Everything in Quick
  • Lab orders when needed (labs billed separately)
  • 30 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs your clinician orders are priced through Passion Health Blood Work if you self-pay, or billed to your plan directly by the lab (CPL) if you use insurance; imaging is billed by the imaging center and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in, 30 days of secure messaging, and lab follow-up when labs were ordered.

Labs your clinician may order

Priced through Passion Health Blood Work

Blood count and nutrient levels; the breath test is ordered separately. Ordered only if your clinician decides it's needed — the visit price never includes a test you don't need.

All Blood Work tests
Complete blood countRed cells, white cells, platelets (14 results)$10
Vitamin B12Vegetarian diets, metformin, numbness$18
FerritinIron stores$18
Draw and clinician-review fee One per order of single tests; not charged when the order includes a Blood Work bundle$29

Typical self-pay total for the Blood Work tests above: $89 visit + $75 labs = $164

Not included in this total: SIBO breath test, when needed — run and billed separately by the testing provider, or to your plan.

Self-pay prices are billed by Passion Health. If you use insurance — including Medicare and Medicaid — the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly for the tests under your plan's lab benefits, and the prices above don't apply. Blood is drawn at a Passion Health clinic in North Texas or at any CPL patient service center in Texas; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Questions

Questions about SIBO care

How much does an online SIBO visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $89 for a standard evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Labs and imaging are billed separately. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For SIBO, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Where do I get labs drawn, and what do they cost?

If your clinician orders labs, they're priced through Passion Health Blood Work: for SIBO that's usually Complete blood count, Vitamin B12 and Ferritin, $75 including the $29 draw-and-review fee, through Passion Health Blood Work (plus SIBO breath test, billed by the testing provider) (self-pay prices, billed by Passion Health). If you use insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, the lab (CPL) bills your plan directly and those prices don't apply. You can have blood drawn at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth or walk into any CPL patient service center in Texas with a photo ID; your clinician reviews your results and contacts you.

Do I need a breath test to know I have SIBO?

A breath test is the usual way to check for SIBO, but it isn't perfect — results can be falsely positive or negative. Your clinician reads it together with your symptoms and risk factors. Testing first can help you avoid antibiotics you may not need, and some people turn out to have IBS, celiac disease or another cause instead.

Can SIBO come back after treatment?

Yes. SIBO often returns, especially when the cause — such as slow gut movement, past surgery or ongoing acid-reducer use — is still there. That is why your clinician looks for and treats the underlying cause, not just the bacteria, and may suggest diet changes with a dietitian.

How do I prepare for a SIBO breath test, and who bills for it?

If your clinician recommends a breath test, they refer you to a provider that offers it. That provider explains the steps and bills you, or your insurance, for the test; it isn't part of the Passion Health Blood Work prices. Preparation usually means no antibiotics for 4 weeks before the test, no laxatives or gut-motility medicines for about a week if it's safe to stop them, a limited diet the day before (avoiding high-fiber foods and others that ferment), and fasting for 8 to 12 hours. Check with your clinician before you stop any medicine.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
