Short answer

Can I get ENT specialist advice online in Texas?

Not yet. When it launches, this will be an eConsult: your Passion Health clinician asks an ear, nose and throat specialist for written advice. You won't have a visit with the ear, nose and throat specialist, and they won't take over your care. Until then, a Passion Health clinician can see you in person in Dallas–Fort Worth, usually the same day; elsewhere in Texas, ask your own clinician about a specialist referral. If you have hoarseness that has lasted more than 3 weeks, especially if you smoke or used to smoke, you need an in-person visit within a few days instead.

About the condition

What to know about ENT input

ENT, or otolaryngology, is the specialty for the ears, nose, sinuses, throat and voice box. People often want an ENT's view for sinus infections that keep returning, a stuffy nose that won't clear, ear fullness or ringing, or a throat that's often irritated. Through an eConsult, an ENT specialist advises your Passion Health clinician without seeing you.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

What this service will cover

  • Sinus infections that keep coming back, or a blocked nose that hasn't cleared after treatment
  • Ear fullness, popping or itching that has lasted for weeks
  • Throat clearing, postnasal drip, or a lump-in-the-throat feeling with no trouble swallowing
  • Questions about a sinus CT scan, hearing test or allergy test report you already have

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • Drooling, a high-pitched sound when breathing in, or you can't swallow your saliva
  • Drooping or weakness on one side of your face

Emergency room now

  • A nosebleed that won't stop after 20 minutes of firm pressure
  • Sinus symptoms with swelling or redness around your eye, double vision, or a severe headache
  • Sudden hearing loss with spinning (vertigo) or trouble walking
  • A muffled, "hot potato" voice

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How specialist input works

A Passion Health clinician evaluates you — online or by video — and stays responsible for your care. With your written consent, they send your history, results and your question to a specialist, who replies with written advice, usually within a few days. The specialist advises your clinician; they don't see you or take over your care. If they think you need to be seen in person, your clinician arranges a referral. How it will be billed is shown here before it opens.

Your care

What to expect from your clinician

What your clinician may consider

  • Your Passion Health clinician reviews your symptoms, past treatments and any scans or hearing tests, online or by video.
  • With your consent, your clinician sends a written question to an ENT specialist through a secure eConsult. The specialist advises your clinician and does not see you.
  • Possible next steps: a prescription nasal spray, an allergy plan, a hearing test, or a referral for a CT scan, if appropriate.
  • An in-person ENT visit if the specialist advises a scope exam or a procedure.

Shown so you know what to expect. The reviewing clinician decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed, and controlled medicines are never prescribed online.

Labs, tests and Passion Health services

  • If your clinician recommends a hearing test or an in-person ENT visit, they can refer you.

  • The price will be shown here before it opens

Specialist input isn't bookable yet. How it will be billed, including with insurance, is shown here before it opens. Until then, you can be seen in person at a Passion Health clinic in Dallas–Fort Worth, billed like any clinic visit, or, elsewhere in Texas, ask your own clinician about a specialist referral.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in, 30 days of secure messaging, and lab follow-up when labs were ordered.

Your clinician messages you when the ENT specialist's advice comes back and explains the plan, including any referral.

Questions

Questions about specialist input

How much does specialist input cost?

Specialist input isn't bookable yet. Its price, and whether the specialist's written advice is included, will be shown here before it opens. Until then, a Passion Health clinician can see you in person in Dallas–Fort Worth, billed like any clinic visit; elsewhere in Texas, ask your own clinician about a specialist referral.

Does the specialist see me?

No. A Passion Health clinician evaluates you and stays responsible for your care. With your consent, they send your history, results and question to a specialist, who replies with written advice — usually within a few days. If the specialist thinks you need to be seen in person, your clinician arranges a referral.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Will the ENT specialist look in my ears or nose?

No. The ENT specialist doesn't see or examine you; they advise your Passion Health clinician in writing, based on your history, symptoms and any reports. If they think an exam is needed — for example, a scope of your nose or throat — your clinician will refer you for an in-person ENT visit. With insurance, your plan may apply a copay or deductible.

What ENT questions work well as an eConsult?

Questions where your history and existing tests tell most of the story: sinus infections that keep coming back, ongoing nasal blockage, ear fullness after a cold, or what a CT scan or hearing test report means. A new lump, hoarseness lasting more than 3 weeks, and sudden hearing loss need an in-person exam instead.

The Texas law behind this visit

Your Passion Health clinician forms the patient relationship and stays responsible for your care (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005, §111.007). The specialist gives written advice to that clinician with your documented consent and does not see you.
