Short answer

Can I get Paxlovid online in Texas?

Yes, for adults 18 and older in Texas. Tested positive? A clinician reviews your symptoms, risk factors and medicines the same day to see whether an antiviral is right for you. Review is by a Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician, 24/7 on weekdays and 7 AM–9 PM CT on weekends. The flat price is $59, or use insurance. Medicines a clinician may consider include nirmatrelvir-ritonavir (eligible COVID-19 patients) — never controlled medicines, and a prescription is never guaranteed. If you have wheezing, or getting short of breath with light activity like walking or talking, you need to be seen in person today instead (at our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics, or urgent care near you), and you don't pay the online fee.

About the condition

What to know about COVID-19

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Symptoms range from a runny nose, sore throat and cough to fever, body aches and loss of taste or smell. It spreads through the air when an infected person breathes, talks or coughs. Older adults and people with certain health conditions face a higher risk of severe illness.

Before you start

Is online care right for you?

A good fit for online care

  • A positive COVID-19 test, with symptoms that started in the last 5 days
  • You're 50 or older, or you have a health condition that raises your risk of severe COVID-19
  • You can list every medicine and supplement you take, so interactions can be checked
  • Testing advice and symptom relief if you're not sure it's COVID-19

Book an in-person visit instead if

  • Wheezing, or getting short of breath with light activity like walking or talking Same day
  • You can't keep fluids down, or you're peeing much less than usual Same day
  • You have asthma or COPD and your breathing is worse than usual Same day
  • You have a weakened immune system, for example from chemotherapy, an organ transplant, or long-term steroid pills Same day

Not near one of our clinics? Online Care is open to adults anywhere in Texas; our clinics are in Dallas–Fort Worth. If the safety questions or your clinician show you need to be examined, we tell you what kind of care you need and how soon — an emergency room, an urgent care center, or a clinician near you. If you've already paid, the full fee is refunded and you get a written summary of your visit to take with you.

Call 911 or go to the ER now if you have

Call 911

  • Short of breath at rest
  • Too breathless to speak in full sentences
  • Blue or gray lips or fingertips

Emergency room now

  • A severe headache or a stiff neck
  • Oxygen level below 94% on a home monitor (below 90% if you have COPD)
  • Coughing up more than a teaspoon of blood, or blood with breathlessness or chest pain

Also call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a sudden severe headache, fainting, a seizure, severe bleeding, new confusion, throat swelling, an overdose or thoughts of harming someone else — and call or text 988 for thoughts of harming yourself. If screening routes you before you pay, nothing is charged. If a clinician routes you after you've paid, the full fee is refunded.

How much does an online COVID-19 visit cost?

Quick evaluation
$59
  • A Texas-licensed clinician reviews your intake
  • A care plan, and a prescription if appropriate
  • 48-hour check-in
  • 14 days of secure messaging

Using insurance: we're in network with BCBS of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana and Healthcare Highways, and we verify eligibility for every plan before review — you see your estimated cost-share first. New patients have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form. Same-day review applies to self-pay visits; insurance visits begin once we've verified your plan, which is the next business morning if you submit overnight or on a weekend. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and TRICARE are billed to the program, and the cash rate isn't offered for covered services.

Full refund if your case isn't accepted: if the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card within 10 business days, and we help you get the care you need: a same-day visit at one of our Dallas–Fort Worth clinics or, if you're not near one, clear advice on where to be seen and a written summary of your visit. With insurance, no claim is submitted for the online review. Paying the flat price yourself? You can ask for a written Good Faith Estimate before your visit.

Labs and imaging, if needed, are billed separately, and medication is paid at your pharmacy. Passion Health doesn't sell, ship or mark up medication.

Follow-up

A 48-hour check-in message and 14 days of secure messaging. If you're not improving, we book a same-day clinic visit, or, if you're not near one of our clinics, tell you where to be seen near you.

48-hour check-in. Message us anytime in 14 days if symptoms change; if you need to be examined, we'll book a same-day clinic visit, or, if you're not near one of our clinics, tell you where to be seen near you.

Questions

Questions about COVID-19 care

How much does an online COVID-19 visit cost?

The flat cash rate is $59 for a quick evaluation, or use your insurance and pay your plan's cost-share — we show you an estimate before review starts. Medication is paid at your pharmacy. If the clinician doesn't accept your case for online care, for any reason, the full fee is refunded to your card.

Will I talk to someone, or is it just a form?

A Texas-licensed Passion Health clinician reviews every intake and decides your plan — not software. For COVID-19, Texas law lets the clinician evaluate you from a condition-specific intake plus your photos and records, and they'll call or video you whenever something needs a conversation. New patients using insurance have a short video visit, because plans pay for a visit, not a form.

Is a prescription guaranteed?

No. You're paying for a licensed clinician's evaluation and plan. Many visits end with a prescription; some end with a different plan, a test, or a referral. Controlled medicines — stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, testosterone, sleep aids like zolpidem — are never prescribed at an online visit.

Who can get a COVID-19 antiviral?

Antivirals are meant for people with mild to moderate COVID-19 who are at higher risk of getting very sick — for example adults 50 and older, or people with conditions such as diabetes, heart, lung or kidney disease, obesity, or pregnancy. The antiviral can be used during pregnancy after a discussion with a clinician; if you're pregnant, you're seen in person the same day — at our clinics, or we tell you where to be seen near you — so a clinician can examine you and talk it through. Treatment has to start within 5 days of your first symptoms. The clinician also asks about your kidney and liver health, because the right dose, and whether the antiviral is safe for you, depends on it.

Why does the clinician need my full medicine list?

The COVID-19 antiviral pill interacts with many everyday medicines, including some statins, blood thinners, heart-rhythm and seizure medicines. Some interactions mean pausing or adjusting a medicine for a few days; a few mean the antiviral isn't safe for you. Listing every medicine, vitamin and supplement, including St. John's wort, lets the clinician check each one.

Do I need a positive test?

A positive home or clinic test helps the clinician confirm COVID-19, and antivirals are generally used for confirmed infection. If your first home test is negative but you have symptoms, the FDA recommends testing again 48 hours later. Upload or describe your result in the intake so the clinician can see it.

The Texas law behind this visit

A clinician may form a valid patient relationship online using store-and-forward technology — your condition-specific intake, photos and records — paired with a call or video when needed, as long as the in-person standard of care is met (Tex. Occ. Code §111.005(a)(3), §111.007). Your clinician gives you guidance on follow-up care and, with your consent, sends new patients' visit notes to their primary care physician within 72 hours (§111.005(b)).
