The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that Annual Wellness Visits now automatically include expanded preventive screenings starting this year.

These updates are designed to:

• Improve early detection of critical health issues

• Reduce out-of-pocket costs

• Encourage proactive health management among seniors

 What’s New?

Expanded Screenings

Annual Wellness Visits will now include:

• Depression screening

• Anxiety screening

• Fall risk screening

• Cognitive impairment screening

• Social determinants of health assessment (screening for issues like food insecurity, housing instability)

No Additional Cost

These screenings are covered at no cost for Medicare patients during their wellness visit.

New Billing Codes

CMS has also introduced simplified billing codes to encourage more healthcare providers to offer these enhanced services during Annual Wellness Visits.
